Luncarty Lockdown podcast could gain a gong for Heartland FM

A podcast compiled from a garden shed in Luncarty has been shortlisted for a top award.

The Luncarty Lockdown is a series of shows which have been made by writer and musician Bob Davidson from Luncarty, which he has shared with the Highland Perthshire radio station Heartland FM.

Bob went vegan and took to sleeping in the shed, bought long ago in Milnathort and now looking pretty weathered.

He mused on his store of clean pants, bananas and camping gas amassed in his wooden garden shed in the opening episode in March, the beginning of the first lockdown.

Now the programme broadcast from Heartland's studio in Pitlochry has been shortlisted in the ‘arts and creative use of radio’ category at the annual national Community Radio Awards, which had more than 460 entries from 90 UK radio stations.

Alistair Smith Heartland FM’s station manager said: “We are delighted to have been recognised among a large number of other stations doing great work across the UK.

“The Luncarty Lockdown is a sideways look at the events of the pandemic, as seen through the eyes of local writer and musician Bob Davidson, where he sees the way to get through the pandemic was to lockdown in his shed in Luncarty.

“It was filled with stories, and music broadcast weekly on Heartland FM and made available as a podcast series from our website.”

The virtual awards ceremony for the Community Radio Awards will take place in December and Bob has his fingers crossed for a Perthshire win.
