Luke Shaw has claimed that Daniel James is the only Manchester United player currently at the club, that is quicker than him.
The left-back is enjoying, arguably, his best run of form in a Red Devils shirt since his 2014 transfer from Southampton.
Shaw has emerged as a key component within Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, making 28 appearances in all competitions.
And as well as his sterling defensive work, Shaw has upped his goal contributions registering six assists this season, with four of those coming in his last three Premier League games.
That increased confidence is clear to see, when in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Shaw suggested he was the second fastest player within the squad.
Asked who was the quickest, he revealed: "There's a lot of talk about this. We all look at the speed we run on our GPS's and people talk saying they're faster than them. There's a lot of competitiveness in that department.
"I think gold medal would be, of course, Daniel James.
"Then it's split here. I think there are so many people who are similar. I'm putting myself up there. I'll put me silver with Rashy [Rashford]. We can keep second.
"Then I would say Axel [Tuanzebe] third."
Shaw’s upturn in form has been attributed to the arrival of Alex Telles during the summer window.
Signed from Porto, many expected the Brazilian to usurp Shaw as Solskjaer’s first choice left-back.
However, the 25-year-old has retained his spot and believes the arrival of direct competition has provided him a real boost.
On Telles’ arrival, he added: "Yeah when there's competition it will improve anyone. We all want to play. It's good to have.
"We have a lot of competition now, not just in the full-back area but all around the pitch. I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it, it's very good for the manager to have that competition because everyone will need to be 100 per cent in training and perform.
"If you're not in top shape and ready and training well the manager can switch it up and I think he's shown that he can do that."
