Luke Garbutt sends hilarious message to Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti

Luke Garbutt has issued an amusing response to Carlo Ancelotti after the Everton boss appeared not to know who he was.

The 27-year-old defender's eleven-year spell at Goodison came to an end this week at the end of his contract, although he had spent this season on loan at League One side Ipswich Town.

The left-back, who at one point seemed an exciting prospect destined for the Blues first team, made only five senior appearances for Everton but has gained plenty of experience in the Football League with loan spells at Cheltenham, Colchester, Fulham, Wigan, Oxford and Ipswich.

When asked about the Yorkshireman's future at his pre match press conference ahead of Wednesday's game against Leicester, Carlo Ancelotti was asked about the Garbutt's departure but the Italian boss - who of course only arrived at Goodison in December by which time the player was already on loan at Ipswich - did not appear to realise who he was and was unable to answer.

Garbutt took in good spirits however replying with 'crying laughing' emojis to a series of tweets drawing it to his attention before sending out a tweet of his own, featuring a series of his best moments on the field for Ipswich with the wording: "There you go Carlo look at what your missing @Everton"

Earlier in the day Garbutt had sent a tweet marking the end of his Everton career, in which he said: "Today officially my contract at @Everton has now expired after been at the club for 11 years!

"The club has been a huge part of my life, and one I had huge pride to represent.

"There’s been many ups and a few downs which I couldn’t control.

"@Everton good luck for the future."
