Lukasz Fabianski reveals why West Ham need to 'put things right' against Newcastle United

Lukasz Fabianski is determined for West Ham to 'put things right' against Newcastle United in their season opener.

The Hammers begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Tyneside for a televised encounter on Sunday afternoon.

David Moyes' side enjoyed an unbeaten pre-season and will look to carry over the momentum which earned them Europa League football this term.

However, the Magpies managed to record the double over Sunday's visitors last season, including an opening-day win at the London Stadium.

West Ham were in the hunt for an unlikely top-four spot when they suffered a 3-2 defeat at St James' Park in April.

The visitors recovered from a two-goal deficit and a first-half red card for Craig Dawson to draw level, only for Joe Willock to head home the winner eight minutes from time.

It is a defeat which left Fabianski desperate to face Newcastle again 'straight away', and the Polish international has welcomed the chance to kick-off the campaign in a 'strong way'.

He told the club's website : "When games like against Newcastle [away] last season happen, somewhere in your mind you think you want to play against them again straight away to put things right.

"It’s going to be a tough game for sure, playing away at their ground, but I think you always want to start the season in a strong way and all the lads will be ready, will be focused, and we will try to do our best to get a win over there."
