Lucy Porter

Lucy Porter looks sweet enough: petite, fresh-faced, barefoot and jolly. She's a good host, too, welcoming us in, apologising for the wait, chatting to the capacity crowd as if she couldn't believe her luck. But perhaps she's not as wholesome as she seems. What makes her happy, she says, is a bottle of Jack Daniel's, a team of young Filipino boys and a harness.

Is that unusual? That's one of the things she's going to look at in this show. It's all about happiness: what produces it, how levels vary from country to country, whether it makes for better or worse art, how to make it last. Would she be happier if she moved to Edinburgh and married a doctor called Miles? Are there more important things in life than food, drink, drugs and sex?

This being a comedy show, we know we'll get more questions than answers. But we do find out what would make Fred happy. The only American in the audience, he confesses that he dreams of someone bumping off Bush. Porter's inspired silliness has already put a smile on everyone's face, but for some reason that thought only makes it broader.
