Lucknow Theatre Turns Battleground Over Child Entry Row at ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Screening

What initially seemed like an isolated outburst is now being viewed as part of a growing trend. Just a week earlier, a similar incident was reported at the Inox multiplex in Emerald Mall, where a father allegedly attempted to sneak his underage son into the same film.

Chaos Erupts in Cinema Lobby

One widely circulated 24-second video captures the intensity of the situation. The cinema lobby turns into a battleground as three men are seen pushing, punching, and kicking each other in full public view. A fourth individual, dressed in a black-and-white checked shirt, attempts to intervene and defuse the situation, but the altercation quickly spirals out of control.

Meanwhile, stunned moviegoers—many of whom had come to watch Ranveer Singh’s latest release—stand at a distance, recording the incident on their phones as the chaos unfolds.

Understanding the “A” Certification

Dhurandhar 2, directed by Aditya Dhar and released on March 19, has been granted an Adults Only rating by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to its intense violence and mature content.

Under Indian law, individuals under 18 are strictly prohibited from viewing such films in theaters, and cinema operators are required to enforce this rule through ID verification. Despite this, some parents appear to treat these restrictions as flexible rather than mandatory.

Social Media Reacts Strongly

As videos of the incident spread across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), the focus quickly shifted from the altercation itself to broader questions about parenting and societal behavior.

Some users framed the issue as part of a larger “art and access” debate. One comment, which the user acknowledged might sound controversial, suggested that high-intensity cinema should not be “accessible to everyone,” particularly those who fail to respect rules or the viewing experience.

Others raised concerns about the normalization of violence. A user criticized the parents for exposing a child to aggressive content during formative years, arguing that such actions could shape harmful perceptions—equating loudness and aggression with strength.

Another set of reactions pointed to deeper behavioral issues, including inflated egos and a lack of emotional intelligence. Some users questioned the logic behind insisting on taking a child to a film clearly marked as unsuitable for minors.

Beyond the Incident

At its core, the episode is about more than just a denied movie entry. It highlights a concerning willingness among some individuals to disregard rules, even when those rules are designed to protect children.

For others present at the cinema, the incident disrupted what was meant to be a simple night out, leaving behind frustration and discomfort. As the debate continues online, it raises an important question: where should the line be drawn between personal choice and social responsibility?
