LUCKNOW: Daughter of a retired IAS officer smashed earthen diyas and other decorative items for Diwali put up by vendors near her home in Patrakarpuram area of Gomtinagar on Monday morning.

Police booked the accused, Anju Maurya, after a video of the incident went viral on social media. In the two-minute video, Anju could be seen smashing the Diwali decor items with a stick.

Additional deputy commissioner of police, north zone, Syed Ali Abbas, told TOI that a non-cognisable offence report was lodged against Anju Maurya under the charges of intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and mischief causing damage under the IPC sections.

The case was lodged on a written complaint given by vendor Ajai.

Police said Anju had initially protested when vendors were putting up stalls near her home. But around 8.45am on Monday, she came out of her home and smashed the earthen diyas and other decorative items displayed by the vendors.
