Lucas Paqueta's Lyon stance revealed as Arsenal and Manchester City step up transfer interest

Lucas Paqueta is settled at Lyon and will remain at the Ligue 1 outfit next season despite interest from some of Europe's top clubs, including Arsenal.

According to ESPN, the Brazil star has caught the attention of several of huge players in the international market, including the likes of PSG, Manchester City and Arsenal. However, talks between said clubs and Paqueta's representatives failed to advance.

The report also adds that Paqueta has completely adapted to France and is comfortable in Lyon, thus he won't force a departure at this moment in time. Plus, as his contract doesn't run out until 2025, the Ligue 1 club are in a very strong position moving forward.

It's certainly bad news for interested parties, especially considering how well he's performed at Lyon since arriving there in 2020.

In fact, the 24-year-old's impressive displays last season didn't go unnoticed either, catching the eye of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, via Foot Radio, back in October of last year, he said: “It’s early but frankly what he’s doing… we talked about it after his match at the Parc des Princes.

“Yes, I like dribbling and blind passes, but what I like is his desire, his activity, his selflessness, his commitment. In general, this is not the case with all Brazilians.

“A player who is fine is a little harder to replace or he is less at the service of the team when he does not have the ball. What impresses me with this player is that he does both with a smile.

"He defends and attacks with a smile. For me, that’s why we can already speak of one of the best players in the championship.”

Whether we'll see clubs return for him in the next window remains to be seen, but for now, he'll be focused on helping Lyon to improve.
