Lucas Digne sends cryptic social media post as Everton sack Rafa Benitez

Lucas Digne has appeared to take a fresh swipe at Rafa Benitez following his Everton sacking.

The full-back completed his transfer to Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee, understood to be £25million, just last week.

Digne last played for Everton in the 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool on December 1 with Benitez claiming last week that the left-back no longer wanted to play for the club.

However, less than a week after the Frenchman's departure, Benitez has now also left Everton after he was sacked on Sunday afternoon.

Despite a bright start to the season, in which the Blues took 13 points from a possible 18, things have taken a turn for the worse in recent months.

The pressure has been growing on the Spaniard for some time now and following the defeat to Norwich City on Saturday, the Blues’ board have opted to make a change.

And taking to Instagram following the news of Benitez’s sacking, Digne posted a picture of himself sleeping, with the caption: “Sunday Mood”.

Speaking on his Everton departure last week, Digne said: "Thank you, to all you wonderful, proud and passionate true Evertonians.

“It has been a an honour and a true pleasure to play for you, the fans, the people - because a club do not belong to a player or a manager, but to the fans. I will always carry you with me in my heart wherever I go.

"Sometimes it only takes one person from outside to destroy a beautiful love affair. All the best to Everton and Evertonians."
