LSG eager to tap players from UP, says mentor Zaheer Khan ahead of IPL auction

LUCKNOW: With just four days remaining for the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have intensified their preparations under the guidance of newly appointed mentor Zaheer Khan.

On Tuesday, the franchise conducted trials at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, underscoring their commitment to nurturing local talent.

In an exclusive conversation with TOI, the former Indian pacer shared insights from his first assignment with the franchise. "I visited Lucknow to conduct trials at LSG's home ground, where approximately 40-50 players had gathered from various states," Zaheer said.

"It was a splendid experience assessing these immensely talented youngsters who have the potential to become future stars. Following the mega auction, we will organise a camp for these players at the Ekana Stadium, which is a magnificent venue," he added.

While Zaheer remained tight-lipped about specific strategies for the auction, he highlighted the franchise's intent to support Uttar Pradesh's local talent. "UP possesses abundant talent, as evidenced by their players' commendable performances in the Indian squad. We are eager to tap into this talent," he said.

On his approach to managing the squad, comprising both Indian and overseas players, Zaheer said, "I am thoroughly confident. We will aim for a balanced squad composition, pursue excellence, and maintain optimistic expectations for the season," he added.
