Love Island Winter Sun 2023 first look as teaser clips released

Fans are set to get a sneak peek at what they can expect when Love Island returns in January.

Two new teaser clips have been released for the Winter Sun edition of the ITV2 reality dating show in South Africa, which kicks off on January 16.

In the footage, new host Maya Jama can be seen making her on screen debut for the programme for the first time since she was announced as the replacement host following Laura Whitmore's exit after this summer's season in Majorca.

It'll be the ninth series of Love Island and the second of the winter versions, which was won last time in 2020 by Scots singer Paige Turley.

The first clip shows Maya’s silhouette before she is lit up to show off a super stylish, glittery outfit.

The second video shows a velvet bucking bronco with a bejewelled heart adorned on it, but producers are not giving much else away so far about what’s in store for the Islanders heading out to South Africa.

The adverts, which will be played on ITV during the commercial break for Emmerdale tonight, both feature the well-known Love Island theme tune and will signal an end to the post festive blues for fans.

This year the villa is set to be the most impressive yet in the show’s history, and the Mail reports it boasts a huge pool, a 100 per cent ‘off the grid status’ and usually costs £430 per night to stay per room.

The new Islanders will be staying in the swanky secluded mansion located in a 'protected' area in the Franschhoek wine valley.

This is the second series of the winter version as ITV2 had to cancel the show scheduled to air in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Scots Love Island voice over man Iain Stirling will return as usual, but Laura announced in August this year she was quitting after hosting the popular reality programme and spin-off Aftersun for three series.

Laura - who shares an 18-month-old daughter with Iain - took to Instagram at the time to confirm she would be leaving, saying she found flying back and forth from the villa 'very difficult'.

In her statement, Laura said she was only planning to fill in for her friend and former host Caroline Flack for one series.

She said: "Some news! I won't be hosting the next series of Love island.

"There are certain elements of the show I've found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.

"I wish it was still possible but know you'll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."
