Love Island viewers distracted after bosses implement change impacting every islander

Love Island 2023 is back with a bang. The new series, which is located in South Africa and hosted by presenter Maya Jama, has brought plenty of drama since it kicked off on Monday, January 16 with a fresh batch of contestants.

So far three new bombshells have joined the original Islanders in an attempt to shake things up. In the latest episode, Ron Hall admitted his head was turning after going on a date with late arrival Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown, despite being coupled up with Lana Jenkins.

Meanwhile, semi-professional footballer Tom Clare decided to couple up with Olivia Hawkins, leaving Will Young single and at risk of being dumped from the villa. But despite the drama, viewers were left distracted during season 9's third episode after bosses implemented a change.

It comes after viewers took to social media to comment on the windy conditions at the villa. During the recoupling that saw Tom steal Olivia, one viewer wrote: "I’m sorry but did anyone notice how intense the wind was in the recoupling, any one of the girls’ lashes would be sent flying."

While a second added: "Is this Love Island or Wind Island?" to which another responded: "It's all I hear in the mics." And a third commented: "I can't actually concentrate on what’s going on because the wind is so chaotic."

However, it looks like ITV bosses have taken control of the situation by adding wind muffs to the Islanders' microphones. ITV2 and ITVX viewers noticed the change during the episode that aired on Wednesday, January 18.

"Who on gods green earth decided on the pompoms on the mic?" wrote one fan, as another replied: "It's to block the wind I reckon, they're literally fighting a hurricane every episode."

While a second commented: "Did they always have this furry mic?" And a third wrote: "Yessss I’m here for the fluffy mics to sort out that wind."

"What’s with the massive fluffy pom pom mics this year," commented another. Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
