Love Island's Sharon Gafka relives horrifying spiking ordeal in candid GMB interview

Love Island star Sharon Gafka has revealed how she was found 'passed out in the ladies' and woke up in A&E after having her drink spiked on a night out.

Sharon, who starred on the hit ITV2 show last year as it returned to Majorca, appeared on Thursday's Good Morning Britain to relive her ordeal, just as a nightclub in Exeter becomes the first UK venue to be made Drink Spiking Aware thanks to training from action group Stamp Out Spiking.

Joining hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway in the studio, Sharon told them that, when the first lockdown restrictions lifted in 2020, she headed out with friends to their favourite restaurant and "had a few drinks," to celebrate a friend's birthday.

The ex Love Island star then explained: "The next thing that happened to me was that I was found passed out in a ladies toilet cubicle."

Reacting to Sharon's story, Kate responded: "Terrifying!" as Ben asked how she knew her drink had been spiked.

Sharon told him: "I think my friends made that conclusion pretty quickly from the moment they saw me.

"I didn't really comprehend it until maybe a day after, as my memory, I have no recollection of anything, apart from being there one minute and then waking up in A&E the next."

Quizzed by Ben on if she thought someone could have 'had access' to her drink, Sharon replied: "I think maybe my inhibitions were a little bit lowered, as we still had Covid restrictions and we weren't allowed to mingle around, so I think I was more relaxed about who was being around the table, because you weren't really allowed to be there.

"So I personally didn't think about it like that."

Asked if she or her friends could pinpoint a moment her drink could have been spiked, Sharon answered: "Yeah, we do, but I think it's very hard to prove, because there were things we could have done at the time that we just didn't now we could have done at the time.

"That's why it's so important to talk about now so that, in the future, people in my situation now what to do."

Writing about the club in Exeter being made Drink Spiking Aware on her Instagram after her GMB appearance, Sharon posted: "The interactive training covers all the key information that venues need to know about spiking. Including what drink spiking is, what substances are used to spike drinks, the symptoms of drink spiking, and the consequences of drinking spiking on businesses.

"Education is key when tackling something like spiking!"
