Love Island's Samie tearfully reveals cancer scare after fans spotted lump on neck

Love Island finalist Samie Elishi has tearfully revealed her cancer scare after fans pointed out a lump on her neck.

In an emotional video posted to the reality star's YouTube channel tonight, Samie broke down in tears as she discussed her health issues and revealed she's had tests done.

Samie, who titled the upload as The Video I Never Wanted To Make, was seen sitting in the passenger seat of a car as she discussed her health.

The reality star, 22, explained her family and friends had received a string of messages from viewers who had spotted a lump on her neck during her time on the ITV2 reality show.

After receiving a message while out with fellow former Islanders Millie Court and Chloe Burrows, Samie asked Love Island winner Millie, 27, to check her neck.

She then revealed that Millie found a "quite big" lump around her thyroid and decided to get it checked out.

Speaking to the camera, Samie explained she had a biopsy and "thanks God" for the fans who reached out to highlight the lump.

Samie said doctors are "not sure" if the lump is cancerous or not and is currently facing surgery to have half her thyroid removed.

Breaking down in tears, Sami said: "I shouldn't be upset because I'm so grateful that people messaged so I've caught it now and I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to get it removed and get it sorted.

"But it is still just really scary."

Elsewhere in the video, Samie said: "It's a 5cm lump on my thyroid."

She also explained how doctors graded her lump at a number three, which meant they couldn't tell if it was cancerous or not.

The Love Island star explained how she saw fellow former Islander Demi Jones, who had thyroid cancer, go through the same health issue.

Sami added: "I watched her highlight the other day and thank God she shared her journey because I've no idea what to expect so I'm so grateful for her sharing her journey and I'm going to share it as well, as hard as it's going to be."

Demi, who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2021 before she was given the all-clear in December of the same year, documented her battle on social media.

The Islander said it was important to raise awareness around the issue before she explained the lump will be tested to see if it cancerous.

She continued: "If it is I'll need to have another surgery, a second surgery to get the other half removed.

"The main thing I was worried about – which is so dumb – is the scar and the healing and is my voice going to change, because that's a thing – probably do me a bloody favour."

Sharing her reasons for discussing her health, Sami added: "Just because you guys are the ones that saw this and made me aware of it I think it's only right for me to share the journey with you and I've found it so helpful watching people who have."
