'Love Island's Liam should be in bottom 3 with toe-sucking Jake - and Feddy should win'

It was a bombshell of a Love Island episode last night.

The biggest question was why any of the Islanders were excited to be going to the beach club....for surely they realise it was never exactly going to be a fun day out.

(Or, let’s face it, much different from staying in the villa).

The other big question was about Jake.

It’s not a mystery why he ended up in the bottom three. But it was a mystery why anyone was surprised - and why Liam wasn’t down there with him.

The Mad Movies Challenge had landed Jake in the doghouse by exposing how he egged on the other lads to cheat/”test” their relationships.

And in a double blow, producers also included that clip of an early-days Jake telling the boys he ‘liked’ Liberty but didn’t want to rip her clothes off. That’s right, not even her socks.

Now that has got to hurt.

You’d think it would be a fatal blow to Jiberty, or at least a row that would last a week or so (I’m sure producers did too, for surely the last thing they need is a predictable winner like Jiberty in a series which was accused of being “dull” and “boring” pre-Casa Amor).

But no, Liberty showed she had far more emotional maturity than most of us would have had in that situation, and, after a few chats, all was fine with Jake. Cue voting viewers deciding to have her back by getting the boyfriend she loves dumped from the Island.

Millie has also shown she’s remarkably emotionally developed: she’s not forgiven Liam for his 15 Certificate under-the-duvet activities with another blonde in Casa Amor - but she’s confident enough to put what she wants first and give him another chance.

Personally, I’m still hoping Millie’s just pulling some kind of long con so she can break Liam’s heart at just the right moment when it’s going to really, really hurt (about 10 minutes before he thinks he might get his hands on the £50,000 prize money, hopefully).

But clearly others have bought into the couple. And for some reason we hate the guy who told Liam to “test his relationship” more than Liam for actually doing it. How else do we explain Liam not being in the bottom three with Jake?

Millie and Liam don’t even have a couple name - Miam is hardly catchy and Lillie is, erm, problematic .

Did anyone even spot Liam’s hesitancy in the whole discussion about whether they were now exclusive? Surely it should have been a no-brainer, or did he want to keep his options open for the wrap party?

All of last night’s actions should just make us all the more sure of who the rightful winners should be. It’s not Jiberty or Miam/Lillie, and certainly not Kaz and Tyler (One of the best moments of Mad Movies was Matthew munching popcorn while Tyler’s naughty Casa Amor videos were shown).

Indeed, the real winners should be Faye and Teddy.

You don’t need a psychology degree to see that someone, somewhere out there has left Faye severely defensive about relationships. She freaked at the idea of being ‘a girlfriend’, and went into full attack mode over Mad Movies, while deep down she must have known Teddy had more reason to be upset with her, than she did with him. It’s Psychology 101: what’s the best way not to get hurt? To hurt them first.

All the time Teddy has been patient and (mostly) respectful, and has tried, tried and tried again to make things better.

Unlike Tyler who claimed to have come in for Kaz, but had his head turned by Clarisse, Teddy’s staying true to his word. He only had eyes for Faye and that’s not changing. We won’t catch him “sticking one on” someone else, and crawling back to Faye with the old “testing the relationship” excuse.

He might find his crown jewels missing if he does. And I don’t mean his ring.

Faye’s feistiness is naturally admirable. Her ranting, which sparked so many Ofcom complaints, not so much. But she’s the Islander who most needs this experience for the right reasons.

Thousands of people will have felt just like her at one time or another: Defensive, hesitant, insecure.

And when you’re feeling that low, a cuddle with a cute Teddy is just what you need.

So if the show’s really about finding that person who’s your perfect match, it’s now clear there’s only one possible winner.

Unless we can vote for the iguanas on the Just Eat bit....it’s got to be Feddy.

*Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2
