Love Island's Dr Alex George forced to watch people die of coronavirus on frontline

Love Island star Dr Alex George has opened up about working on the NHS frontline during the coronavirus crisis.

The reality TV star, a qualified doctor working in A&E in Lewisham, London, says he is "preparing for battle" whenever he goes into work.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Alex, who starred in Love Island 2018, admitted he is concerned about going into work but knows there's a "job to do".

Alex, 29, said: "You’re preparing for battle emotionally and physically.

"You’re going into an A&E and seeing difficult situations. You’re seeing people dying of coronavirus, and that’s very difficult."

He admitted that he is worried about his own safety after seven NHS staff died from the virus in the UK.

Alex continued: "I think anyone who says they are not concerned is not being completely open."

He returned to his medical career after his stint on the ITV2 show.

Alex admitted it was hard to keep very ill patients away from their families.

He continued: "We're not able to let patients see their family even if they're really really unwell in A&E which is very difficult because it's our natural instinct to want to comfort family, comfort patients, and make those situations as comfortable as we can.

"We're not able to do that in the way we want which is heartbreaking."
