Love Island host Laura Whitmore hits back after being slammed for 'excessive travelling'

Love Island host Laura Whitmore has hit back at eco-warrior trolls who slammed her for “excessive” travelling.

The new presenter has made the 12,000-mile round trip to Cape Town more than six times since the show began this month.

As well as her duties on the hit reality programme, Wicklow-born Laura is also hosting spin-off show Aftersun each Monday in London and her BBC Radio 5 Live show every Sunday morning.

The schedule clashes mean she has had no other choice but to travel regularly to South Africa.

Despite this, eco-extremists are calling for the blonde star to be sacked, claiming she has a “complete disregard” for her carbon footprint and the overall state of the planet.

Taking to Twitter to troll the presenter, one user wrote: “Laura Whitmore should be sacked. Who thinks it’s okay to fly that much? What a complete disregard for the state of the planet.”

Another said: “Jesus, obviously she hasn’t heard of the climate crisis.”

A third replied: “@bbc5live Surely there are studios she could broadcast from in SA? #ClimateCrisis.”

Hitting back, Laura said: “Love Island Aftersun is filmed in London – as all the guests are based in the UK. I’m only in Cape Town for the finale, public voting etc.

“I’m an advocate of offsetting carbon footprint you’ll notice on my Twitter. Thanks x.”

Meanwhile, she enjoyed a sneaky kiss with boyfriend and Love Island voiceover favourite Iain Stirling when she flew over for the latest elimination.

Sharing images of their behind-the-scenes reunion yesterday to wish the Scot a happy birthday, she said: “When bae sneaks into your office to say hello!

“Happy birthday to the best person I know @iaindoesjokes.”
