Love Island bosses address criticism of 'beyond unethical' Teddy and Faye scenes

ITV has responded to a social media backlash against Love Island scenes condemned as "beyond unethical".

Friday's 'Movie Night' challenge ended in a furious tirade from Faye Winter at now-ex-partner Teddy Soares, after clips from his time in Casa Amor were show in the villa.

But in the aftermath of the firey incident, many viewers expressed concern about whether the couple had been pushed into the conflict, and whether it should have been broadcast.

The Mirror put these concerns to ITV, and a spokesperson has now responded.

The complaints came after viewers had already expressed their concerns about contestants being "manipulated" by a postcard from Casa Amor, with a record number of complaints to Ofcom as people argued images showing both Teddy and Tyler kissing other women were "misleading and caused unnecessary distress."

And worried continued to be raised on social media after Friday's episode.

One viewer wrote: "[M]ade an Ofcom complaint about #LoveIsland tonight because I should have done so last week. [I]t's beyond unethical to allow what happened in tonight's episode to go ahead without intervention, never mind to broadcast it as entertainment".

An ITV spokesperson told The Mirror: "Welfare and duty of care towards our contributors is always our primary concern, and we take the emotional well-being of all the Islanders extremely seriously.

"We have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times who monitor and regularly speak to all of the Islanders in private and off camera, especially if someone appears to be upset.

"All the Islanders are therefore fully supported by the professionals on-site and by their friends in the villa."

They concluded: "Islanders can always reach out and talk to someone if they feel the need."

At the start of this year, ITV announced it had put in place new measures to support the mental health of islanders both before and after their time on the show.
