Love Island 2021 has first official couple as Jake asks Liberty to be his girlfriend

Things are about to get romantic in the Love Island villa.

On tonight's episode, fans will see Jake Cornish take the plunge and ask Liberty Poole to become his girlfriend.

In scenes that will air on ITV2 this evening, smitten Jake pulls out all the stops in order to ensure Nando's worker Liberty knows he only has eyes for her - after getting approval from the boys in the villa.

Ensuring that the lads agree with his plans to lock Liberty - who he has been coupled up with on the show since day - down, he tells his mates of his plans as he says: “I think it’s maybe time to take the plunge and put a label on it.”

He gets to work on creating a romantic setting by setting up a surprise dinner for Liberty.

The meal starts with Hugo and Liam serenading Jake and Liberty, as she finds the evening out of the ordinary, Liberty asks Jake: “Is this the sort of treatment I’ll be getting every night?”

Millie and Liam help by presenting the duo with a spaghetti bolognese, before Faye and Teddy bring over dessert.

After their meal, Jake and Liberty are sitting on the bean bags and Jake says: “I wanted to bring you here and just say how happy you make me to be honest.”

Liberty says: “I’ve never connected with someone the way I have with you, ever. All cards on the table, I don’t think I really knew what love was until I met you.”

Jake says: “I feel like I’ve found the one. Will you be my girlfriend?”

It comes after Liberty said she “loves” him on Wednesday night’s episode.

Liberty turned to Jake, who was still wearing his 70s finest after a fancy dress pary, and commented on his throwback threads: “Babe, I love you but you’re giving me the ick.”

She then attempted to backtrack on her sentiment after and said those three little words came out by mistake.

Turning to Faye, Liberty said: “S**t. Did I just say that?”

To which Jake joked: “Oh my God. Did you hear what she just said?”.

The morning after the night before, Brummie beauty Liberty tried to clear up saying she “loves” Jake over breakfast.

Liberty said: “It just slipped out. I say that to my mates.”

Her comment left Jake asking: “Am I just your mate?” to which Liberty responded: “No!”.

*Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
