Lotto jackpot Ireland winning chances as record €19m prize rolls over again

The National Lottery jackpot of over €19 million rolled for the 47th consecutive time on Saturday night.

But, with Wednesday nights draw giving players another chance to win the lifechanging prize, just what are your chances of winning?

The National Lottery has said that winning a prize is 'always a matter of luck'.

Its website states: "There is no skill required in order to win a prize and therefore, no matter how you play, you cannot influence the outcome that is based on chance.

"Before you play, read the rules of the game and know the odds. This will give you all you need to make an informed choice."

The overall odds of winning the prize are as follows, according to The National Lottery.

Virgin Media's Political Correspondent Gavin Reilly said part of the reason for all of the rollovers is "because it's never been harder to win".

Speaking on Virgin Media News, he said: "In 2015, they added two more numbers to the draw, and that means the odds of any one line winning the jackpot is over 10, 737, 573 to 1.

"Now, since it was privatised, the lottery doesn't publish exactly how much is spent on tickets but based on the limited data available, our estimate is that 1.4 million lines are bought for each draw give or take but at most that only covers around 13% of the possible combinations, so the odds of a rollover of any given draw are about 87%.

"But it has now been 46 draws in a row without a win, and although the odds of each draw remain the same overall it's a remarkable streak."

After Saturday night's draw not being won yet again, the chances of 47 consecutive rollovers are around 650/1.
