Lotto bosses reveal lucky €19m shop in Castlebar after prize winner comes forward

The winner of Saturday's record-breaking €19m Lotto jackpot has come forward and made contact with bosses.

Arrangements are now being made for the prize winner to collect their life-changing sum, while the National Lottery have now confirmed the store which sold the winning ticket.

Laura's XL in Castlebar, County Mayo will be celebrating, with Lotto bosses expected to travel to the shop later on Wednesday to congratulate the staff.

The winning Quick Pick ticket for Saturday's must-win draw ended a long streak of over 60 draws without a jackpot winner, a run which had stretched since June of 2020.

And it's not the first major Lotto win for Laura's XL owner Laura Scriney.

In 2019, a local Telly Bingo player bought a ticket worth €60,000, while in the same year, a Winning Streak scratchcard bought in the shop resulted in a woman winning €29,000.

Speaking at today’s announcement, shop owner Laura spoke of the excitement she felt on receiving the news from the National Lottery that her store had now taken on such an historic title.

“The entire county really has been buzzing with chatter about the Lotto jackpot since the weekend with everyone wondering where exactly the winning ticket was sold.

"When I heard that our store was the lucky location, I was in a complete state of shock. I knew that it was a Castlebar shop but finding out was completely overwhelming!

"I am only in business since 2019 so this is certainly a big moment for me and my family. Saturday night was such a huge draw and one that’s been the talk of the town for the week now so we are absolutely over the moon to have played a part in this. The winner truly is the luckiest player in Ireland now and we wish them all the very best with their win,” she said.

It's part of the reason Castlebar is seen as Ireland's luckiest town when it comes to Lotto.

The town has now had four jackpot winners worth a combined €80 million since 2014.

A Castlebar shopper bought a EuroMillions jackpot ticket in Mulroy’s Londis shop in the town and scooped €17 million in February 2020.

Other big Castlebar wins include a EuroMillions jackpot worth €29 million that was landed by a syndicate in July 2019 after they purchased the ticket in the Garryduff XL store.

The first EuroMillions jackpot win in Castlebar was in April 2014 when a ticket worth €15 million was snapped up at Staunton’s Costcutter Express on Main Street.

There was a hive of activity in Castlebar on Monday as locals checked their tickets and speculation and rumours intensified over who the winner is.
