Lottery prize of £1m goes unclaimed as deadline for ticketholder passes

The deadline to scoop an unclaimed £1m lottery prize has now passed.

The ticketholder had bought the EuroMillions ticket in Rhondda Cynon Taf, but the deadline to claim the uncollected prize expired at midnight on Sunday, April 19, after the draw on October 22, 2019.

It means the UK Millionaire Maker prize money, and any interest, will now go on to help National Lottery projects across the UK.

With all National Lottery draws, players have 180 days (about six months) from the day of the draw to claim their prize if they have the winning ticket.

Camelot's Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said: "Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.

“In the current situation and to avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, we’re urging all National Lottery players to play and check their tickets online at national-lottery.co.uk or by downloading the National Lottery app, and only buy their tickets in retail as part of their essential shop.

"Playing online via the website or app means that your ticket is checked and you get an email if you are a winner. The National Lottery app will also scan your draw based games retail tickets to check if you are a winner.”

Around £30m is raised on average each week for National Lottery good causes.

  • Anyone who has any queries or who believes they have the winning ticket for any of the National Lottery draws within the 180-day deadline should call the National Lottery Line on 0333 234 5050 or email help@national-lottery.co.uk.
  • If players have any concerns about not being able to get in-store to claim a lower-tier prize, they can contact 0333 234 50 50, but are encouraged not to get in touch unless they have a ticket nearing the end of the 180-day claim period.
