Hear ye, hear ye! Peter Dutton has finally broken his silence after losing both the federal election and his Dickson seat to the Labor Party, and it sounds like he’s soft-launching his exit from AusPol.
Arriving in Canberra following his historic, dramatic, delectable defeat, Dutton told reporters that he would not be commenting on the loss.
“I just want to say thank you to all of those who have offered good wishes, there are a lot of people who have been very kind and generous in their remarks, so I am very grateful for that,” the former Liberal Party leader told media, per 9News.
When asked about what the next steps were for the Liberal Party in terms of leadership, Dutton refused to comment, stating that the new leader is something for his former colleagues to handle.
“I’ve spoken to my colleagues and the Liberal Party rebuilds from here, as it should be,” he continued, before hinting towards a potential ~sashay away~ from politics.
“Former leaders make a graceful exit from politics and maintain their graceful silence.”

For the pals who might’ve missed out on Saturday night’s festivities, Dutton conceded the election at 9.30pm, accepting “full responsibility for the loss” before adding that he has spoken to PM Anthony Albanese, congratulating him on his success.
“Earlier, I called out the Prime Minister to congratulate him on his success tonight. It is a historic occasion for the Labor Party and we recognise that,” he shared.
“I congratulated the Prime Minister and wished Jodie and Nathan all the very best, and I said to the Prime Minister that his mother would be incredibly proud of his achievement tonight, and he should be proud of what he has achieved.”

On top of that, the bloke also lost his Dickson seat to Labor’s Ali France, making him the first Liberal Opposition leader to lose their seat in the federal election in Aussie her-story.
“I also had the pleasure of speaking with Ali France, Ali and I have been combatants for a number of elections but she was successful in Dickson tonight, and she will do a good job as a local member,” he said.
“She lost her son Henry which is a tragic circumstances and no parent should ever go through that, equally I said to Ali that her son Henry would be incredibly proud of her tonight and she will do a good job as a local member for Dickson and I wish her all the very best.”
Adding salt to Dutton’s wounds, US President Donald Trump said he didn’t know who he was when speaking to reporters.
“Albanese, I’m very friendly with,” the controversial leader told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I don’t know anything about the election other than the man that won, he’s very good.”
OOOOOOFT.
At the time of writing, the new supreme of the Liberal Party has yet to be picked. However, it’s been speculated that shadow treasurer Angus Taylor or opposition leader Sussan Ley could be up for the top job.
