Lorraine viewers startled as singer paying tribute to Queen suddenly 'cut off' by ITV

A singer paying a beautiful tribute to the Queen on Lorraine was suddenly "cut off", leaving viewers startled as they questioned what had happened.

A pair of strangers went viral at the weekend after their spontaneous musical tribute at London Bridge station.

Anna Lapwood, an organist and director of music at Cambridge University, had been joined by security guard and trained opera singer Marcella de Gale as they stunned commuters with their rendition of Lascia ch’io pianga.

Appearing on Lorraine today with Marcella, Anna said: "I often stop off at this little organ and I always put my phone there and film whatever happens and capture people interacting with it. And then Marcella comes up and I'm like, 'Your voice! This is incredible!'

Marcella said that it had just felt right to join in, while Anna explained that people had begun crowding round them and that people had started telling them that they were trending on Twitter.

"You've got to do more singing because it's just beautiful, it really is," Lorraine told her. "Do you just sing for fun? For you?"

"A bit of both," Marcella replied. "I learnt it earlier. But she was playing, it switched me on so I decided to just sing the song."

Anna and Marcella went on to play and sing the song again in the studio. While viewers were able to enjoy the performance, they were left baffled when it was suddenly cut off as the screen went to black. This Morning's intro was then played by a brass band live on air in London.

Fans flocked to Twitter to comment in confusion, with one writing: "Cut off suddenly. #Lorraine."

While another commented: "Really subtle cutaway from #Lorraine there! #ThisMorning."

A third fumed: "Why did you cut off the beautiful singing and why didn’t you tell us the name of the song?"

*Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
