Lorraine Kelly returns to Glasgow to share story of 'inspiring' weight loss journey

TV host Lorraine Kelly is returning to Glasgow to attend a WeightWatchers (WW) workshop this weekend.

After showcasing her own weight loss, Lorraine will be meeting fellow WW members at Glasgow's Radisson RED hotel on Saturday October 8, where she will find out how they have transformed their lives after being referred onto the programme via NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

After approaching WW herself earlier in the year after gaining weight during lockdown, the TV presenter has now gone from a size 14 to a 10 and lost a stone and a half. She has now reached her goal weight and is moving more, her sleep has improved and her fitness and confidence levels have risen dramatically.

A spokesperson from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde says: “We would like to thank Lorraine for bringing her own success story to our communities in Glasgow and inspiring them to continue their weight loss journey.

"Losing weight is one of the best things that a person can do to improve their overall health, and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are there to support the people in our area with a range of weight management services in all of our local communities.

“Losing just 5kg (11 lbs) could lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, may improve your mobility and reduce aches and pains, as well as reducing your chances of developing type 2 diabetes.”

Originally from Glasgow, Lorraine will meet a number of WW members who have enjoyed success as part of the NHS partnership including Billy Hughes, 54, who lost 10 stone in nine months with WW. He couldn’t tie his own shoelaces when his GP referred him to WW and was in such poor health, he didn’t leave the house for two years during the covid pandemic. He is still working towards his goal weight, but confesses he is a new man since starting the WW programme.

Amongst others, she will also meet Claire Wilson, 27, who suffers from clinical depression and arthritis. After losing more than three stone, she says she feels 'amazing'.

The workshop on Saturday is in celebration of the partnership between WW and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The programme is designed to support people to lose weight, eat healthily, move more, build good habits and improve health and well-being. Individuals are eligible if they are over 18 with a BMI of 25 or over or are pre-diabetic. An individual can self-refer or be referred by a healthcare professional.

The programme is 12 weeks long and comprises both face-to-face and digital support via the WW app. In the last 12 months, WW has supported over 3,5000 people to participate in this programme.

Glasgow-based WW coaches Christine Flemming and Catherine Scarrow, will join Lorraine and the members at the Glasgow workshop where they will be be trying a variety of new science-backed techniques that help them to build long-term, healthy habits so they can maintain their weight loss for good.

Earlier this year, Lorraine teamed up with WW after lockdown. She said shared that she's been eating better, snacking less and getting out on walks with her dog more.
