Lorraine Kelly opens up about being separated from daughter due to coronavirus restrictions

Scots TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has spoken about her struggle over not being able to see her daughter Rosie after she returned to the UK after living in Singapore for three years.

The Scottish national treasure last saw her 25-year-old daughter Rosie in December when she visited from Singapore for the festive period but despite coming home to London when the coronavirus lockdown was first imposed, Lorraine was unable to see her daughter for a further two weeks.

Rosie, who is also a journalist, had to self-isolate away from her parents for two weeks due to the government's strict lockdown rules.

She stayed at her mum's London flat, where she usually stays when filming her daytime show, to avoid putting her family under unnecessary risk from the killer disease.

Recalling on the emotional moment, Lorraine told Mail Online: "We'd been in touch, we'd been doing Zoom calls, but there's nothing like being able to give your child a cuddle.

"Every mother will know what I'm saying – there's just nothing like the smell of your child’s hair. Rosie always smells so good.

"I'm trying not to be too teary, because I don't want to embarrass her, but being able to hold her after all that time was just fantastic."

While Rosie spoke about the first time she was reunited with her mum after being holed up away from her family.

She also told the outlet: "Being able to finally hug mum was lovely but a bit surreal."

Later in April, the telly presenter broke down in tears as she spoke to her daughter on her breakfast show.

She told viewers: "I feel like she is safer there then she would be here."

Speaking to her daughter directly, Lorraine added: "I sort of think that you are in one of the safest places in the world, with the measures that are happening."

While Rosie replied: "Yes the government are taking it really seriously they are doing it now, so they don't have to do it later and it gets worse."
