Loose Women's Ruth Langsford supported as she breaks down in tears

Ruth Langsford was supported by her co-hosts on Loose Women today as she wiped away tears.

The ITV panelist became emotional when talking about the impending death of a loved one - her family's pet dog.

The women on the show had been talking about how difficult it is to lose an animal, as they discussed the death of Evelyn's pet dog Cerberus on Coronation Street. He died on the ITV soap after eating a snack that he shouldn't have and was poisoned as a result.

Devastating scenes saw the character, played by Maureen Lipman, saying goodbye to her four-legged friend. Loose Women showed a clip of the scene before cutting back to the studio, where Ruth was seen with tear-filled eyes.

She sighed as she said: "Oh I can't bear it." Coleen said: "God, you're actually going to cry? It's not even your dog."

Ruth went on to offer an explanation as to why she was so emotional. She said: "My little Maggie is about 13."

An image of her family's dog appeared on screen as the panel all said: "aww" in unison. Ruth continued to wipe away tears with a tissue as she said: "Oh God!

"Anyway, look at her there. She's going a bit grey."

Ruth's voice continued to wobble as the tears kept flowing as she struggled to get her words out. Coleen Nolan decided to step in as she said: "Shall we talk about something else?"

When Ruth collected her emotions a bit, she expanded on why she had been reduced to tears. She said: "In the grand scheme of things you know that your pet is going to go before you and that's heartbreaking. So I think, looking at Maggie who is a bit grey and she's 13, watching that [clip of Corrie] was a bit like 'oh no that is going to happen'."

Ruth's voice cracked once more as her eyes filled with tears again. Coleen joked: "I don't want to be anywhere in the vicinity when that happens. You're going to need months off work."
