Loose Women's Coleen Nolan prompts 'concern' from viewers over smoking habit

Coleen Nolan prompted an 'influx' of messages to Loose Women, as colleague Christine Lampard told 'voiced concerns' from viewers about her smoking habit.

Long serving panellist Coleen was back on the show on Wednesday, joining co-stars Kelle Bryan and Jane Moore as Christine took the helm of the latest episode. Early on in proceedings, talk turned to whether tackling the country's 'smoking crisis' be a top priority for Liz Truss' government, particularly new health secretary Terese Coffey, who is herself a smoker,

Coleen also smokes and, when, Christine came to her for her opinion, the former Celebrity Big Brother winner explained that the cigarettes she smokes set her back around £15 a packet of 20 at home in the north and £20 'down south.' She added that she'd calculated she'd save around £12-£14,000 a year if she packed in her habit.

After she was asked by Jane if there was "a single thing the government could do to make you stop smoking?" Coleen replied: "I think like any addiction and I am addicted to it, I think it has to come from you. You have to want to do it, you have to be mentally prepared to do it. Someone just telling you to do it...even just having this conversation is making me want to reach for a cigarette!"

When Loose Women show returned from its first ad break, Christine revealed that 'loads' of people had got in touch with the show, willing Coleen to quit smoking, with the presenter saying: "The nation is calling for you to save all of the cash. It's a health thing and a money saving venture," before asking Coleen: "Are you up for it?"

Looking deadpan, Coleen replied: "Thank you for your concern. Coleen is not in the building at the moment, she' having a fag," adding: "But yes, they're right, I should...I'll let you know when I do."

As Christine then quizzed: "A new year's resolution perhaps?" Coleen snapped: "Why don't you just get on with the show?" Conceding defeat, Christine remarked: "I tried. I voiced your concerns folks, she did'nt listen but you saw me try."
