London travel news LIVE: M25 closed with major delays after lorry overturns in crash

Overturned lorry on the M25 - (National Highways)

Motorists are experiencing major delays after a lorry overturned on the M25, leading to a road closure.

The anti-clockwise stretch of the M25 in Surrey, between Junction 10 (Cobham) and Junction 9 (Leatherhead), remains closed following the incident.

Emergency services, including Surrey Ambulance Service, are at the scene.

Drivers are being warned to expect significant delays. National Highways confirmed that traffic officers are also present and advised motorists to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time while the closure is in place.

Diversion route

Drivers have been advised to take the following route:

  • Exit the M25 at J10 (Wisley Interchange) at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto A3 towards London.
  • Follow the A3 to Tolworth
  • Take the exit slip at A240 Tolworth Interchange and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout onto the A240 towards Reigate.
  • Continue onto A24 at Organ junction
  • At A24 Ewell By-pass roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A240 towards Reigate.
  • At A240/A217 Burg Heath junction, turn right at the traffic signals onto the A217 towards Reigate
  • Follow the A217 to M25
  • At M25 J8 (Reigate Hill Interchange) take the 1st exit and re-join the M25 at J8.

Stretch of M25 closed due to overturned lorry

National Highways has reported that a section of the M25 in Surrey is closed after a lorry overturned in a crash.

The anti-clockwise carriageway between Junction 10 (Cobham) and Junction 9 (Leatherhead) is shut in all four lanes, with a diversion currently in place.

Amended late night services between London St Pancras International and Nottingham / Derby / Sheffield

Engineering work is taking place at various locations on the East Midlands Railway network, closing some lines overnight until Saturday morning.

  • The 21:01 Sheffield to London St Pancras International service will start 1 minute earlier than usual, and will run earlier throughout
  • The 22:32 London St Pancras International to Sheffield will depart Leicester later than scheduled at 23:42 and will continue to run later throughout, arriving into Sheffield at 00:44
  • The 22:35 London St Pancras International to Nottingham will depart Kettering later than scheduled and will continue to run later until Beeston

Friday:

Amendments to some late night Southeastern trains

Engineering work is taking place at various locations on the Southeastern network, closing some lines overnight from Monday to Thursday.

These changes may be subject to further alterations on some days, such as starting earlier, or not taking place at all. Please check your journey using the Journey Planner, and also check other items on our engineering pages for the date of your journey.

Every Monday and Tuesday night, Network Rail carry out essential maintenance on the lines to and from London Charing Cross.

There will be no trains at London Charing Cross or London Waterloo East from approximately 23:30 until the end of service.

Trains will run from London Cannon Street instead, and you will need to travel to / from London Cannon Street / London Bridge.

Disruption to Great Western Railway services to / from Gloucester expected until 1pm

The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that the two people injured in this morning’s lorry collision were men.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M25, between junctions 25 and 26.

"The collision involved two lorries and crews carried out operations to make the scene safe. Two men were treated on scene by paramedics and removed to hospital.

"The Brigade was first called about the incident at 0833, with firefighters from Enfield and Edmonton fire stations attending the scene. The incident was over for crews by 0942."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.33am today (29 October) to reports of a road traffic collision on the M25, Waltham Cross. We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene.

"We treated two people and took one patient to hospital as a priority. The other patient was taken to hospital by East Anglian Air Ambulance."
