London travel news LIVE: Strike action disrupting over 60 bus routes

Commuters are facing disruption to bus routes due to strike action on First Bus services across the capital from today until 5am tomorrow (Tuesday, September 2).

Little or no service is expected on many First Buses, while local buses that are not directly affected by strikes are expected to be busier than normal.

Trains from Ramsgate to London St Pancras International and Victoria will be disrupted until 11.00 due to a fault with the signaling system between Faversham and Ramsgate. While engineers are en route to fix the issue, trains will be subject to delays and cancellations.

Meanwhile, good service was reported on all London Underground lines.

Mildmay line part suspended between Clapham Junction and Shepherds Bush

There is no service on the Mildmay line between Shepherds Bush and Clapham Junction while Network Rail remove an animal from the track.

Good service is reported on the rest of the line.

Metropolitan line delays resolved

Earlier delays on the Metropolitan line due to train cancellations have been resolved.

Walthamstow Central station escalator out of action

Commuters will have to trample down a 70-step staircase for a fortnight at Walthamstow Central station while the “down” escalator is repaired.

Until mid-September, Transport for London will be carrying out repairs to improve the escalator’s reliability.

This comes after a similar shut down of the ascending escalator before the summer.

Delays on Metropolitan line

There are delays on the Metropolitan line between Moor Park and Chesham due to train cancellations.

The next southbound departure from Chesham will be at 12.30.

There is good service on the rest of the line.

Major disruption to trains in Kent due to blocked lines

Several rail lines are blocked in Kent due to a signaling fault in Gillingham.

Trains running between Gravesend and Rainham/ Faversham may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes until around 13.00.

Services between London and the coast via Faversham will end their journeys at Gillingham.

No trains will run between Gillingham and Faversham, but trains will continue to run between Faversham and Ramsgate.

A replacement bus service is being organised between Gillingham and Faversham.

Disruption between Paddington and Newbury expected until 11.30

As a result, trains have to run at a reduced speed on the line towards Newbury.

A safety inspection is taking place on the track north of Doncaster. As a result, some trains may be delayed by up to 45 minutes.

Tube strikes this week

From Sunday 7 September, the RMT union which represents rail and transport workers will take industrial action which will disrupt London Underground services until Friday 12 September.

Transport for London have warned that some National Rail services may be impacted if London Underground operated stations are closed.

The TfL journey planner is not currently showing correctly for the strike dates. TfL has advised commuters to check the service later in the week.

There will also be no service on the DLR on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 September.

Trains between St Pancras, Victoria and Ramsgate delayed

A fault with the signaling system between Faversham and Ramsgate has blocked some lines, causing cancellations and delays to services from Ramsgate to London St Pancras International and Victoria.

Disruption to services is expected until 11.00.

Engineers are currently en route to solve the signaling issue. While trains between Faversham and Ramsgate are unable to run, trains in the opposite direction are in service.

Replacement buses have been organised and the first service is scheduled to depart at 09.51 from Faversham.

Tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on Stagecoach buses travelling the Thanet Loop bus route.

Ambulance service confirms no injuries in M20 multi-vehicle crash

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service which operates in Kent confirmed there were no injuries in the multi-vehicle crash on the M20 this morning.

The collision involved two cars and two lorries.

The M20 is still closed westbound between Ashford (junction 9) and Maidstone (junction 8) while debris across the carriageway and damage to the central reservation is being cleared.

Trains may be delayed by up to 20 minutes until around 11.00 as services recover.

Alternative travel to avoid flooded railway lines

Flooding on the railway between Gatwick Airport and Horsham means trains have to run at reduced speed on some lines.

Floodwater can wash away the stones that support the track, damage the third rail that powers trains, and affect signalling systems.

Southern and Thameslink are working with Network Rail to manage the impact, using pumps and flood barriers where needed. Their control teams are monitoring conditions and sending staff to affected areas as quickly as possible.

Trains running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised as a result.

M20 crash update: oil and fuel spillages being cleared

A crash involving two cars and two lorries occurred on the M20 at around 3am this morning.

A spillage of oil, fuel, coolant and hydraulic fluid across the carriageway is being treated and there is also damage to the central reservation barrier.

Emergency services are on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.

The westbound carriage remains closed.

Diversion route

Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on the following route:

  • Leave the M20 at J9 onto Fougeres way and follow to the roundabout with the A20.
  • Take the 3rd exit onto the A20 heading west.
  • Follow the A20 through Charing, Lenham and Harrietsham back to the M20 J8 and rejoin the M20 westbound at J8 to continue your journey.

2,000 London United drivers expected to strike in London

Around 2,000 bus drivers are expected to take industrial action on planned First Bus strikes in London happening today and on Monday 1 September until Tuesday 2 September.
