London travel news LIVE: Latest Tube and train updates as huge crowds head to Notting Hill Carnival

Major travel disruption is expected today as up to a million people are set to attend the last day of Notting Hill Carnival.

Ladbroke Grove is closed all day and stations close to the carnival including Latimer Road, Notting Hill Gate, Westbourne Park, and Holland Park will be impacted with delays, temporary closures and restricted entry.

The main parade starts at 10.30am and sound systems will go live at 12.00pm, with floats, music and stalls set to end by 8pm.

Meanwhile, industrial action means there are no Cross Country train services today between Reading, Stansted Airport, Birmingham and Cambridge.

Planned engineering works means trains running to and from major stations including Kings Cross and London Euston may be delayed, amended and reduced until the end of the day. Hounslow and Lewisham stations are also impacted by major engineering work.

The Waterloo and City line is closed today and the Mildmay line is running a reduced service, which will affect trains between Willesden Junction, Clapham Junction, Camden Road, Stratford and Richmond.

Ongoing rail disruption between Kings Cross and Kings Lynn

Trains between Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross will be disrupted until the end of the day following a fault with the signaling system in the Downham Market area.

As a result, trains will be running at a reduced speed and may be delayed up to 20 minutes.

Paddington rail disruption

Several rail services from London Paddington will be delayed following a safety inspection of the track between Paddington and Acton Main Line.

Lines have reopened, but delays of up to 30 minutes are expected as services recover until around 5.30pm.

There are minor delays to Elizabeth line services between Paddington and Heathrow Terminals and Reading due to an earlier obstruction on the track in the Action Main Line area.

This is likely to impact carnival revellers as Paddington is one of the closest stations to the festivities.

Train delays between Charing Cross and Ramasgate

Trains between Ramsgate and London Charing Cross are delayed due to an earlier trespassing incident at Staplehurst.

As a result, trains will be delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised until around 3.15pm.

The trespasser has been cleared of the line and trains are now on the move.

Carnival performers representing Caribbean, African and Brazilian culture

Thousands have lined the streets for carnival to watch bands and floats representing Caribbean, African and Brazilian culture in west London.

Groups included Bajan Raw Licquer, Mahogany, Chocolate Nation, Mas Africa, Vincy Alliance and United Kreyol, which reflect traditions from Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, St Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica, Dominica and Haiti.

Brazilian performers from Paraiso Samba School, Batala and Dende Nation added to the line-up, alongside long-established UK community bands.

M25 update: Congestion expected to clear by 1pm

Congestion on the M25 anticlockwise between junctions 3 and 2 caused by an earlier crash is expected to clear by 1pm.

Meanwhile, there is congestion on the M25 clockwise between junctions 27 and 28, with delays of up to 15 minutes expected until 1pm.

Update: Reduced service between West Ealing and Greenford

London Euston: Avanti West Coast and Northwestern Railway service disruptions

Damage to overhead electric wires between Rugby and Coventry has caused disruptions to services from London Euston to Edinburgh and Crewe.

Although lines have reopened, trains may be cancelled or delayed up to 25 minutes until 12.00.

A shortage of train crew means that trains between West Ealing and Greenford are being disrupted until the end of the day.

The following alterations are in place:

Tickets will be accepted on London buses via any reasonable route at no extra cost.

The Central line has reopened following a part suspension between West Ruislip and Northolt due to a signal failure.

Bus diversions and special services for carnival

A number of buses will be diverted away from the carnival area, while several special services will be put on to service the event.

To the north of the carnival area, buses will start from the Prince of Wales pub on Harrow Road and to the south buses start from Notting Hill Gate.

Runs between East Acton and Paddington from 12.00 to 21.30. Calls at all stops between East Acton and Wood Lane, then Shepherd's Bush, Notting Hill Gate, Lancaster Gate and Paddington.

6X to Harrow Road

Runs between Peckham and Harrow Road in one direction only. Calling at all stops between Peckham and Vauxhall, then running non-stop to Harrow Road.

Major events set to cause travel disruption today

Along with Notting Hill Carnival crowds, travel in London may be disrupted by other major events today including Bermondsey Carnival in Southwark Park, Reading Festival and Cricket at The Oval in Kennington.

Battersea Park may also see crowds and delays due to a Jools Holland concert running from 1.30pm to 9.00pm.

Trains between Kings Cross and Hitchin disrupted

Temporary hire bike restriction during carnival

Rental bikes, e-bikes and scooters will be suspended in the carnival area during the event.

Docking stations for Santander Cycles, also known as “Boris Bikes”, will be temporarily suspended until 8.00am on Tuesday 26 August.

There will also be temporary access and parking restrictions on dockless e-bike and e-scooter schemes in the carnival area.

Rail disruption between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street

Disruption is expected until 11.00am on trains between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone following a line closure caused by a broken down train at Tyseley.

Although lines have reopened, cancellations or delays of up to 35 minutes are expected as trains return to normal.
