London Euston station evacuated due to 'security alert'

London Euston station was evacuated this afternoon due to a "security alert".

The station was closed shortly after 3pm.

It was reopened around 40 minutes later after the suspicious package was found to be a DAB Radio.

National Rail initially tweeted: "London Euston station is currently being evacuated due to a security alert at the station.

"Please follow instruction from staff and the emergency services."

London Overground tweeted: "Euston Underground station is closed due to a security alert."

Later, London Transport Police said: "Please be aware, Euston was evacuated following a report of suspicious package. It’s been reviewed and found to be a DAB Radio. No concerns. Station will be reopening shortly"

Video posted by commuters showed passengers - many with suitcases - being evacuated and a police presence by the closed station.

One said: Bomb scare at London Euston... Merry Christmas???"

Another posted: "I’m at Euston station trying to get home to Glasgow but it’s been evacuated. Hope nothing serious"
