London bus strikes - date and which services will be affected

The UK's transport sector continues to be disrupted with further strikes planned in August.

Over the summer, strikes over pay and working conditions for rail workers has caused chaos across the nation.

Now, on the same day as rail strikes are due to hit again, more than 1,600 London bus drivers are set to take action as a result over a dispute in pay.

The bus driver strike will coincide with the next rail worker and TFL (Transport for London) underground strike, bringing London to a standstill as all main methods of public transport are set to grind to a halt.

When is the bus strike happening?

The London bus strike is set to coincide with rail and underground strikes (PA)

The strike is due to take place on August 19 and 20, the same days as strikes on London Underground and the railways.

The union said the action is coming after being offered a pay increase of 3.6% in 2022 and 4.2% next year, which the union said was effectively a pay cut considering the soaring rate of inflation.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The parent company RATP is fabulously wealthy and it can fully afford to pay our members a decent wage increase."

She continued: “Our members at London United will receive the union’s complete support until this dispute is resolved and a fair pay offer secured.”

The government has yet to publicly comment on the looming bus strikes, as tensions between unions and parliament continue to grow.

No agreement has been reached between unions, government and companies owning the services, and at the moment strikes are set to go ahead.

Which bus services will be affected by the strike?
