A Lockerbie pub hosted an eight-hour music festival – Jam4Sam – in aid of The Brain Tumour charity last Saturday.
Lynzie Dorrance and her partner, Craig Glendinning, organised the outdoor event at The Royal Bar with a record-breaking £3,600 raised in memory of “Super Sam”.
Lynzie’s five-year-old cousin Sam Dorrance died of a brain tumour in 2016 – 18 months after diagnosis – and the family have held fundraising events in the years since.
Last year’s music day raised £2,300 and Lynzie hoped to beat it.
The event was a sell out and the generosity of sponsors, customers and prize-donors for a raffle smashed the target.
The Super Sam Fund has now raised more than £180,000 for charity over the years.
The youngster lived in Gretna where his mum, Tanya Turnbull, originates from, before the family moved to Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.
Lynzie said: “I can’t even put into words how much this means to our family.”
She has thanked all the eight bands who carried on performing despite the rain; the sound team of Sandy Sweetman and Pedro Peewee; Graeme Dorrance and Tanya Dorrance; “wonderful and extremely generous” sponsors and Craig and all the bar staff.
Lynzie added: “But my biggest thank you is to all you lovely people who came and supported us. Your support and donations mean the world to me and all the Team Super Sam family.
“From the bottom of my heart guys I thank you so much. Roll on 2024.”
Among the raffle top prizes were a week’s holiday to Spain plus €100 Euros cash from Michael Tough and Lowland Brewery and tickets to a hospitality day at Annan Athletic.
