Local entrepreneur donates dinky designer mushroom chairs to Dundee museum

A designer seating company based in the Czech Republic has donated a dozen dinky mushroom chairs to a Dundee museum so kids and families can lounge in style when they take part in activities.

LD Seating has given 12 of the funky Funghi stools to the V&A Dundee that will put down roots in the museum's Thomson Learning Centre.

The UK arm of the company is based in Dundee - rather than the obvious choice of Portobello - and is run by local entrepreneur and general funghi Andy Stewart, who made the donation to the eye-catching attraction this week.

Designed by Filip Streit, a design lecturer at the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Funghi chairs are a champignon find for any forager in need of a rest.

Visitors can forage for their own Funghi chair in the V&A shop (V&A Dundee)

And as well as providing a comfy (toad)stool for museumgoers, visitors can snuffle a truffle their own starting from £273.

Joanna Mawdsley, head of learning at V&A Dundee, said: “This generous donation will really enhance our learning studios.

"These are currently used for a wide range of design-led learning and exploration, from early years and family workshops to school sessions, and as an open meeting space for community use.

“We’re delighted to receive this gift from local entrepreneur Andy Stewart, helping us bring the best of design to every visitor to V&A Dundee.”

Andy Stewart added: “As a Dundee-based company which works all over UK it was a privilege to help the learning team at V&A Dundee with some new stools for the learning centre.

"Funghi was the ideal product to make the spaces more dynamic and fun for the learners and staff alike.

"We are very proud to continue our partnership with V&A Dundee and certainly are proud ambassadors as we travel the county promoting our design-led products."

No word on whether there's mushroom for any more chairs in the museum - but the V&A welcomes all donations.
