It has been an eventful day in North Somerset, as the Conservative Party lost control of what has been seen as very much a "true blue" constituency.
The local election results saw North Somerset local election results 2019: Conservatives to lose control after 'whitewash' , for the first time since 2007.
Now a former North Somerset councillor, North Somerset Council deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees to return to 'writing about helicopters' after losing seat - and has said he will now return to "writing about helicopters" and "enjoying life".
The outlook was not good as ballots began to be piled after voting on May 2, with North Somerset MP Liam Fox saying he has been receiving calls about the bad news for the Tory party since 2am.
Dr Fox blamed the election whitewash on Brexit , while former council leader Nigel Ashton - who did retain his seat, although lost a huge portion of his majority - blamed central Goverment.
