Arsenal will still be able to sign Martin Odegaard on loan, despite confirming the signing of Mat Ryan until the end of the season on Friday.
The arrival of the Australian means that the Gunners now have two players on loan within their 25-man squad after re-signing Dani Ceballos on a temporary basis from Real Madrid in the summer.
Premier League rules stipulate that clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
This would seemingly make a loan move for Odegaard, who has been heavily linked with Mikel Arteta's side this week, impossible.
However, these rules are only applicable to domestic loan moves. This means that no Premier League club can have more than two players on loan from another Premier League club.
Fulham for example had five loan players in their side during their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday.
This would leave Arsenal free to sign Odegaard as a third player on loan from La Liga champions Real Madrid.
There was also some confusion on whether the Gunners be able to bring in two players on loan from the same club.
Premier League laws state that the maximum number of temporary transfers registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
Dani Ceballos is already on loan from Real Madrid, which would seem to rule out the possibility of Arsenal also being able to sign Odegaard from the same club.
However, upon seeking further clarification from the Premier League football.london understands that temporary transfers refer only to domestic loans. Loans from abroad are not counted within these numbers.
This means that there are no regulations stopping the deal for the Norwegian international to join Arsenal on loan for the the remainder of the season from happening.
football.london understands that the Gunners are very close to securing the deal.
