Loam in Galway city crowned best restaurant in Ireland

The best restaurant in Ireland for 2019 has been crowned.

Loam in Galway city took home the top honours after more than 90,000 members of the public voted in the All-Ireland awards held in Dublin last night.

The restaurant and wine bar based on Fairgreen road near Eyre Square was awarded a Michelin star in 2016.

It is owned by Enda McEvoy, who was crowned Ireland's best chef at the awards in 2016.

Graham Neville of Dax Restaurant was named Best Chef for 2019 in last night's awards, while the honour of best pub went to Dublin's Doheny and Nesbitt.

Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins told the ceremony: "Ireland may be a small country, but it boasts everything from fine dining to high quality gastropubs, from the comfort of traditional Irish food to exploring the world through exotic world cuisine, the Irish restaurant industry has much to offer.

"We have an appreciation for what we eat and where our food comes from, as well as the dedication of those working in the food industry."
