Lizzo stuns fans with new shapewear collection full of gender-affirming designs

Body positive icon and flute playing extraordinaire Lizzo has announced that the next launch of underwear brand Yitty will include gender-affirming shapewear.

Yitty and Lizzo announced the new launch just before Trans Visibility Day, and while it won't actually hit online shelves until later in the year, fans are already praising the singer for her inclusivity.

The Your Skin collection includes binders and tucking thongs for non-binary and trans customers to feel confident and comfortable in their bodies.

Lizzo said she and Yitty had been working on the designs for over two years, and promised "to grow and expand with your needs".

The Good As Hell singer tweeted: "Introducing.. YOUR SKIN by Yitty. Gender affirming shapewear for all gender identities You deserve to feel like you. You deserve to feel good in Your Skin.

"We've been working on this a long time & it’s finally ready! Binder tops & tucking thongs coming this summer!"

Few mainstream underwear and shapewear brands offer gender-affirming designs so this announcement was met with support and excitement from fans.

Binders can help flatten chests for anyone who suffers gender dysphoria, so having safe binders in mainstream brands will help stop many from using unsafe methods that can damage tissue and leave scaring.

The Yitty announcement showed models wearing cycle-style shorts, tucking thongs, binder tops and Lizzo sporting a bodysuit - all in black.

There's no indication if these will come in various colours and stylings - so far all we know is the collection will be out in summer.

In a follow up post on Instagram, Lizzo shared: "I've watched countless videos of people crafting their own garments to wrap or tuck their bodies so their body can truly feel like theirs.

"I’ve heard people talk about their preference of wanting to be fluid in how they want to present their bodies depending on their mood or style of clothing. And I wanted to help.

"I called my team at Yitty and they immediately jumped to action. It took 2 years of extensive wear testing, community feedback, and attention to detail. I’m excited to say we have a great product that’s promises to grow and expand with Your needs.

"I’ve already read positive comments about how we can offer more to the non-binary, trans, gender-fluid community I wanna hear more!

"Your feedback is not only valuable but a necessity to us. Because we do this for You. Every Damn Body. Xoxo Lizzo."

Lizzo co-created Yitty which is sold through Fabletics, launching it in 2022 with the intention of creating shapewear for every body type.

One fan said: "Oh my gosh this is incredible. Thank you so much for putting work into this. Gender affirming garments desperately need a more streamlined, accessible and quality source. Can’t wait to see what this is like."

Another praised: "Promoting all body types is the best thing ever" while a third added: "Mom of a trans girl here, so appreciative of the support you give kids like my child."
