Livingston set for double signing announcement as boss eyes relaxed summer break

By Callum Carson

Livingston are set to announce two new signings tomorrow and boss David Martindale admits he’s relieved most of the squad is already in place for next season because it means he can have a relatively stress-free summer.

The Lions already have 16 first-team players under contract next term as well as four players returning from loan spells. They have also confirmed the signing of full-back Jamie Brandon from Hearts.

The duo, both defensive players, got their Governing Body Endorsements approved earlier in the week and will link-up with the team for pre-season.

Young Australian defender Phillip Cancar, previously with Western Sydney Wanderers, is expected to be one of the signings announced.

Speaking after last night’s draw with St Mirren, Martindale said: “I think the evolution and progression in this group of players has been fantastic and we’ve progressed at a faster rate than I thought we would at the start of the season. To finish seventh is massive credit to the players and staff.

“We’re going into next season with 90 per cent of the players I want to keep at the club being at the club and that’s the first time that’s happened.

“I don’t feel as rushed or panicked going into the holidays and I’ll be able to spend time with my wife and daughter.

“There will be another couple of signings announced tomorrow and then I’m probably looking for three players at the top end of the park and then that’s us.

“There might be guys who have interest and bids made but that’s in our control and I can enjoy my holidays.”
