Liverpool win title, Chelsea hold off Man Utd - Premier League table predicted after suspension

The 2019/20 Premier League campaign may be on hold but that has not stopped the football stats gurus offering their verdict on how the season will pan out.

Coronavirus has forced the season to be postponed until April 3 but there is a chance that the date gets pushed back.

In the meantime, football fans are left wondering whether the season will restart or simply be cancelled.

If and when the Premier League campaign restarts, FiveThirtyEight have been predicting what the final table will look like.

Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the league at the moment and it's unsurprising to see Jurgen Klopp's men backed to win the league, accumulating 101 points and winning the title by 20 points.

But the top four race is expected to be very interesting with a number of clubs set to fight for Champions League qualification spots.

Man City's Champions League ban would also mean that fifth place would be a spot for the European competition subject to the club's Court of Arbitration for Sport appeal.

The prediction model has Chelsea finishing fourth on 64 points and Manchester United picking up that fifth spot with 62 points.

Chelsea are rated as having a 79% chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Tottenham are predicted to finish the season poorly and end eighth with 55 points. Arsenal, meanwhile, are down to finish ninth.

Spurs are rated as having an 11% chance of qualifying for the Champions League, while Arsenal's rating is 5%.

Crystal Palace will end in 12th, Watford in 16th and West Ham are down to narrowly avoid relegation by finishing 17th and two points above Bournemouth.
