Liverpool vs Tottenham Champions League final tickets blunder as hundreds of devastated fans receive email in error

Liverpool and Tottenham fans have been left devastated over a bogus email saying they had won VIP tickets for the Champions League final was sent out in error.

Zavvi, an entertainment retail store, was running the competition with Mastercard, offering  "the chance to win a VIP trip for two adults to attend the UEFA Champions League Final Madrid 2019".

The package was said to include two tickets for the Madrid final, two nights' accommodation, UK transfers, return flights to the Spanish capital, travel insurance and a £250 pre-paid credit card.

But the offer was a mistake and the retailer has admitted to the blunder, which left supporters feeling massively deflated.

The email read: "We here at Zavvi would like to wish you a huge congratulations as you have been chosen as the winner of our Mastercard competition, winning a VIP trip for two adults to attend the UEFA Champions League Final Madrid 2019."

But supporters were left extremely disappointed.

Both Liverpool and Spurs secured their places in the European final in dramatic circumstances, with the Reds beating Barcelona from a 3-0 down first leg position, while the Londoners scored with almost the last kick of the game to beat Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday night.

But Zavvi confirmed that a mistake had been made.

A spokesperson for Zavvi told the Liverpool ECHO : "We’re extremely sorry to have got our loyal customers’ hopes up, however due to human error a mistake was made with our mail-out and unfortunately there is only one winner of the tickets."

And a Mastercard spokesperson added: “We are extremely disappointed with today’s events and our sympathies go to the many people who were wrongly contacted by Zavvi in connection to their competition.

"We have asked Zavvi to clarify how they are resolving as a matter of urgency.”
