Liverpool vs Manchester United LIVE
Liverpool host Manchester United in what is still considered the biggest fixture in English football regardless of Premier League fortunes. After suffering three straight defeats across all competitions prior to the international break, Arne Slot's side will be hopeful of a return to winning ways this afternoon.
The Reds have not lost at home to Man Utd since January 2016 and have enjoyed a great degree of dominance in this fixture in recent years, famously thumping their rivals 7-0 during the 2022-23 season. That being said, the Red Devils have taken a point on each of their last two trips to Merseyside and may fancy their chances of another positive result.
Man United go into the game on the back of a much-needed victory over Sunderland and are seeking to record successive Premier League wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim to move to within a couple of points of Liverpool in the table. Man Utd changes
15:40 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim makes two changes to the Manchester United side that started the 2-0 win over Sunderland a fortnight ago.
Harry Maguire comes into the defence, while Matheus Cunha gets the nod over Benjamin Sesko.
Senne Lammens starts in goal once again.

Liverpool team
15:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArne Slot has opted to stick with the same Liverpool team that started the 2-1 loss to Chelsea before the international break.
That means Florian Wirtz is named on the bench once again, but Alexander Isak leads the line as he goes in search of his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

Sam Tabuteau at Anfield
15:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool, looking to end a three game losing run, start with Alexander Isak up top.
Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Amad were all given an extra days rest and they all make Manchester United's starting lineup at Anfield.
Ruben Amorim opts not to name a recognised striker as he looks for back-to-back league wins for the first time as United manager.
Remarkable given the two teams' plight, but a win arguably means more to Arne Slot this afternoon.
A huge game in store.

Team news imminent
15:10 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneWe are expecting team news to be confirmed any minute now.
Will Isak and Wirtz start for Liverpool? Who will Amorim select in Man Utd's attack?
Find out shortly...
Amorim gets vote of confidence
15:05 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSir Jim Ratcliffe has admitted that Ruben Amorim has underperformed with Manchester United, but ruled out sacking the Portuguese head coach.
"He has not had the best of seasons,” Ratcliffe told The Business Podcast, produced by The Times and The Sunday Times.
“Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That is where I would be, because football is not overnight.
"It is three years. You also look at [Mikel] Arteta at Arsenal. He had a miserable time over the first couple of years.
"The press, sometimes I do not understand. They want overnight success. They think it is a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it is all going to be roses tomorrow."

Revisiting THAT win
15:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneIt's incredible to think Liverpool's 7-0 thrashing of Man United in March 2023 is the last time they beat their bitter rivals at Anfield.

Scholes blasts Man Utd trio
14:55 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePaul Scholes has said that Manchester United trio Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Casemiro can no longer cope with the demands of the Premier League.
All three players are among the more experienced players in Ruben Amorim’s squad and have been regulars under the Portuguese tactician at the start of the season.
Shaw, who came in for stinging criticism from fellow Man Utd legend Roy Keane after the Manchester derby loss last month, has started every Premier League game so far, while Casemiro has missed just one game because of suspension.
Maguire has featured in all but one of Man United’s eight games across all competitions, though only three have come as a starter.
The central defender is reportedly in contract talks to extend his stay at Old Trafford but comments from Scholes would suggest the club are making a mistake because Maguire along with Shaw and Casemiro have “dropped to a level” that is below what's required in the Premier League.

Isak boost for Liverpool
14:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak is now “close” to full fitness in a key boost for Liverpool.
The Reds’ British record signing has been brought along slowly since completing a £125million transfer to Anfield on Deadline Day, having not been playing at all at Newcastle or training with the first-team squad as he sought to force through an exit.
A lack of a proper pre-season and any previous match action this term left Isak a long way short of fitness following his high-profile move to Merseyside, but he has been steadily ramping up over recent weeks, mixing starts with substitute cameos.
After starting twice for Sweden during the international break and playing the full 90 minutes in both World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Kosovo, Slot believes that Isak is at the end of his own individual pre-season and close to where he should be in terms of fitness, as he targets a first Premier League goal for his new club in their clash with rivals Manchester United.

Predicted Manchester United XI
14:45 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSenne Lammens looks set to start in goal again when Manchester United face Liverpool.
The Red Devils’ £18.2million Deadline Day signing from Royal Antwerp was handed his first appearance in English football prior to the international break, when he shone and kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford.
Casemiro and Matheus Cunha will be assessed after playing for Brazil against Japan on Tuesday, though United’s other internationals who were given an extra day off training on Thursday - a number that included captain Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo - are ready to play.
Predicted Manchester United XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Dalot, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Amad; Sesko

Predicted Liverpool XI
14:40 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneMilos Kerkez will be hopeful of keeping his spot at left-back in light of a few tired appearances by Andy Robertson, but the bigger question will be who Arne Slot chooses on the opposite side.
Jeremie Frimpong arrived for big money this summer but only has one Premier League start to his name, with Conor Bradley and even Dominik Szoboszlai often preferred at right-back.
Florian Wirtz should start as the most advanced midfielder, meaning Alexis Mac Allister could miss out, with Mohamed Salah a shoe-in on the right wing.
Liverpool predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Salah, Wirtz, Ekitike; Isak

Score prediction
14:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim and Manchester United are yet to prove themselves against a top side this season.
Their three Premier League wins have come against the newly promoted sides Burnley and Sunderland, and Chelsea, who played with ten men from the fifth minute.
One would expect them to struggle against the Premier League champions, then, but the case may not be as cut-and-dry as it appears. With Liverpool reeling having gone winless in three, now is the time for United to strike while the iron is hot.
Whether they can grab the opportunity is another question entirely. Arne Slot has had a fortnight to tinker and will expect his Reds to get back to form after their recent wobbles.
Liverpool to win, 2-1.
Manchester United team news: Defensive pair absent
14:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim has confirmed that neither Noussair Mazraoui nor Lisandro Martinez will be fit enough to face Liverpool this afternoon.
Martinez, who has not played all season after suffering an ACL tear back in February against Crystal Palace, is nearing a full recovery, but has only just joined in team training.
“Licha is not available,”Amorim said of the centre-back. “Near [to a return] but he is just returning.”
As for versatile defender Mazraoui, Amorim says he does not know when the Moroccan will be back fit.

Liverpool team news: Double boost but Alisson out
14:10 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool have been handed a huge double injury boost ahead of their meeting with Manchester United after both Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch were passed fit.
"Ryan is completely fit,” Reds boss Arne Slot told the media on Friday. "Konate has come back to us and is expected to train today.
However, first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains sidelined with a hamstring issue and will not face United, while he has also been ruled out of the upcoming trips to Eintracht Frankfurt and Brentford.
Slot added: "Alisson - he is not training, he is out. It's so difficult to say [when he will return], because the end phase of rehab can give positives and negatives, but he will not play this weekend or next week."
