Liverpool title parade LIVE: Latest updates as Reds celebrate winning Premier League

Liverpool continue the celebrations after winning the Premier League title with jubilant scenes extending from Anfield to around the city this evening despite rain throughout the day.

The champions’ victory lap concludes weeks after securing the title against Spurs and Mohamed Salah’s strike ensured a draw against Crystal Palace to round off a historic campaign.

It has not only been scenes of jubilation though, with an element of sadness for Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite being cheered on Sunday, as the right-back bids farewell to the club after 20 years, with a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer expected to follow in the coming days.

And the future looks bright, too, with the Reds plotting a big summer in the transfer market, after strong links with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz to bolster Arne Slot’s attack.

Follow all the latest updates, videos, pictures and analysis from another big day for the Reds below:

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold on final game:

18:30 , Mike Jones

"I didn't know what to expect stepping out at Anfield after what had happened a few weeks ago. I wanted to play for the club one more time and he [Arne Slot] trusted me to play. To get the reception I got means more than anything.

"I've played hundreds of games for the club but I've never felt so loved and cared for.

"There wasn't a day, minute, second that I didn't think about the team. Twenty years is a very long time time but I've loved every single minute of it. The ups and the downs.

"It's been an honour and privilege to be part of. I'll remember this day. It's very special for me. It goes down as the best day of my life."

Sipke Hulshoff adds: “The best outcome of a first year, but what John said, the happiness, you see it in the stadium against Tottenham, it’s nicer than the prize, it makes me very happy.

“It’s the most important thing, it’s our job, good feeling to the game and coming back home, tell their wives and friends, ‘we play good football’ and aggressive football, you get this!

Slot's record season

14:50 , Mike Jones

Liverpool’s title win comes in Arne Slot’s first season in English football – he is only the fifth manager to lift the Premier League trophy in his first season in England.

He is the fourth manager to win the English top-flight title in his first season as Liverpool manager, after Matt McQueen (1922-23), Joe Fagan (1983-84), and Kenny Dalglish (1985-86).

Liverpool mastered the succession plan but Premier League glory revealed a key lesson for rivals

14:40 , Miguel Delaney

So, that’s the 2024-25 Premier League final table set and locked into the records… a scenario that carries much more weight than that basic description might sound. The “imminent” outcome of the Manchester City hearing didn’t arrive, so its repercussions - whatever they might be - will not be felt until next season.

It remains remarkable we’re still waiting, although it consequently fits with a largely drab season that often felt like it was being drawn out. Even the brief civil war from City’s APT case petered out, the emotions put aside until “the big one”, as Liverpool cantered to their 20th top-flight title.

England’s most successful club winning ’20’ will be the main legacy of the 2024-25 season, to go with the sensational bottoming-out of the other record-holders: Manchester United.

Arne Slot reveals bold ambition to match Jurgen Klopp in one key area

14:20 , Mike Jones

Arne Slot has already proved to be Jurgen Klopp’s successor in more ways than one. As Liverpool manager and as the only ones since 1990 to win the title. He may in another, too. Slot will welcome his predecessor back to Anfield this weekend to witness the Dutchman's Liverpool lift the trophy. Slot may yet emulate Klopp in a very different respect.

Klopp lasted eight-and-a-half years at Anfield. Slot is completing the first of an initial three-season deal but at a club where winning the title or the Champions League confers a status that can bring longevity. He has begun to imagine a similarly lengthy reign.

Liverpool end-of-season awards

14:10 , Jack Rathborn

More awards from Mellor and McAllister then, how about moment of the season?

Both agree: The win over Spurs to clinch the title.

Performance? A bit different here, the interpretation clashes between team and player: Mellor goes for the second half against Leverkusen and McAllister says Conor Bradley against Real Madrid.

Surprise? Mellor opts for the transition since Jurgen Klopp departed, while his disappointment, if there is one, was the Man United home game.

Shearer on Salah's season

14:00 , Mike Jones

Alan Shearer spoke about the impact of Mo Salah on Liverpool’s season ahead of the parade this afternoon.

“What a season, what a player,” he said. “29 goals in the league and 18 assists. It's just ridiculous consistency from this guy.

“He very rarely misses any games and the brilliance he brings to Liverpool [is so important].

“Once he gets on [his left foot] he really is deadly and he's an incredible player. Obviously he plays in a really good team and good teams need great players. There's no doubt he is that and he's been absolutely sensational.”

Neil Mellor and Gary McAllister have given out their end-of-season Liverpool awards.

Player of the season? Easy: Mohamed Salah for both.

“If it can’t be Mo?” A necessary award, to be fair, Mellor goes for Ryan Gravenberch, but McAllister opts for Virgil Van Dijk.

Young player? Both go for the Dutch midfielder.

Liverpool weather forecast for title parade

13:40 , Jack Rathborn

Liverpool have said that the parade could last as long as five hours.

It’s been a little damp in the city, but that hasn’t hit the mood, with joyous scenes with more than an hour before the bus departs.

After missing out on a parade three years ago, thanks to the Covid campaign, Liverpool fans are determined to make the most of this one.

The forecast in the next few hours suggests 80-90 per cent chance of rain right the way through to 8pm tonight, according to the Met Office. Temperatures are 14c, meaning a good jacket is essential to last the course today for the Reds.

There’s a little dip from 3-4pm with the chance of rain down to just 70 per cent.

Mohamed Salah reveals stunning Saudi transfer plan before signing new Liverpool contract

13:31 , Jack Rathborn

Mohamed Salah said that he would have gone to the Saudi Pro-League this summer if he had not signed a new deal with Liverpool.

The Egyptian revealed he held “serious” talks with the cash-rich Saudi league. Al-Ittihad had bid £150m for him in 2023 and there was renewed interest from the division in recent months.

Liverpool rejected that but risked losing Salah on a free transfer this year, as his contract entered its final few months and after the forward described himself as “more out than in”.

Salah ended up signing a new, two-year deal to stay at Anfield to cap a campaign in which he won his second Premier League title and the Footballer of the Year award.

"We need to be better next season, the competition will be better next season as well."

Ryan Gravenberch: 'I will remember it all my life'

11:56 , Jack Rathborn

“I think you can see it's really amazing,” Ryan Gravenberch tells BBC Radio 5 Live. The Dutchman was sent off in the second half and will miss Liverpool’s first top-flight game next season, but doesn’t seem particularly bothered, which feels fair enough.

“I think this will be one of the best days in my life. Everyone is really happy. It is beautiful to see.

“I will remember it all my life. We never take this for granted. I am really happy I can be in this moment.

“We grew into the season. From the start we gave everything and now is the day to celebrate it.”

Liverpool CEO heaps praise on Arne Slot

11:48 , Jack Rathborn

Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan praises Arne Slot’s astonishing start to life as Reds manager. “We had the benefit of time, in one sense. Jurgen Klopp made his decision last January, and that allowed a bit of a reset in a sense.

“Then Michael Edwards coming in and FSG Football then hiring Richard Hughes, then we had time to go through a proper process to find the right person.

“Obviously, you never know until they come in and take the role but he's been fantastic.

“He's taken a very strong squad and built on what was already there, and obviously they were just relentless this year. It's been fantastic.”

On new signings, he says, “When we have something to say, we'll say it. Hopefully we'll have things to say, but until then we won't be giving anything away.”

'I love what Liverpool stands for' - Van Dijk

Van Dijk is asked on Sky Sports how he thought the fans would take to him when he first joined the club.

“It's difficult to say if I think back. I chose this club because I thought that it could happen. I love this club, I love the fans, I love what Liverpool stands for. I'm really happy that I extended for two years and the love doesn't go unnoticed so we keep going.”

Liverpool in contact with Bayer Leverkusen over record Florian Wirtz transfer

11:33 , Jack Rathborn

Liverpool have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen about a potential deal for Florian Wirtz.

Bayern Munich have also been interested in the Germany playmaker but there are suggestions in Germany that they are less likely to buy the 22-year-old, with Liverpool emerging as a possible destination.

They are already set to sign his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who has had a medical as Liverpool prepare to trigger his €35m release clause. And they could make a double swoop on the 2024 Bundesliga champions, though any transfer for Wirtz could involve breaking Liverpool’s transfer record.

Leverkusen reportedly want £126m for Wirtz, who was named the Bundesliga Player of the Year last season.

Cody Gakpo recalls best moments from title winning season

11:24 , Jack Rathborn

We had a lot of great games,” Gakpo continues, asked whether there was one standout game. “Maybe the 2-0 win against City at home which really, we already had a very good feeling, but maybe this gave us more confidence that we could do something special this season. I think that was a special moment.

“We had many special moments. We had many special comebacks, comebacks against Brighton at home, with 10 men we drew with Fulham at home which was a great game. 2-0 win Brentford away, I can name all the games. We had a lot of beautiful moments.”

Liverpool end title-winning season with draw against Crystal Palace

11:01 , Jack Rathborn

FA Cup winners Crystal Palace did their best to spoil Liverpool’s title party as they secured a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

A 1-1 draw and Ryan Gravenberch’s red card could not dampen spirits as fans were not prepared to allow anything to spoil seeing the trophy lift in person for the first time in 35 years.

Mohamed Salah equalled the Premier League record of most goal involvements in a season – Andy Cole (1993-94) and Alan Shearer (1994-95) achieved 47 in a 42-game season – with an 84th-minute leveller.

And to prove the occasion was all about celebration even the tearful departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was jeered on his last appearance at Anfield, was welcomed back into the fold.

Supporters who were still maybe not prepared to forgive at least ensured the defender’s 354th and final appearance after a 20-year association with his boyhood club did not end on a sour note.

When is Liverpool’s Premier League title parade? Route, times and how to watch

10:59 , Jack Rathborn

Liverpool continue their Premier League title party with the parade on Monday after the jubilant scenes at Anfield on the final day of the season.

Arne Slot’s side lifted the trophy on Sunday and partied long after the stalemate against Crystal Palace with emotional scenes as the Reds showered Trent Alexander-Arnold with love ahead of his expected move to Real Madrid despite a hostile reaction leading to the end of the campaign.

Now, hundreds of thousands of Liverpool fans will gather in the city on bank holiday Monday to extend the celebrations.

The open-top bus parade marks a 20th top-flight league crown and with an expected busy transfer period, having already been linked with Florian Wirtz, the club is in a fine position to extend this period of success into next season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold enjoyed a brilliant send-off at Anfield as Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy in his final appearance for the club, with the right-back warmly applauded by the crowd on an emotional afternoon.

He has confirmed that he will depart his boyhood club this summer on a free transfer after helping Arne Slot’s side to Premier League triumph, with the England international widely expected to join Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold replaced Conor Bradley at half-time on his last game for the club and was visibly emotional at the full-time whistle, hugging his teammates and manager as they celebrated a second league title of his spell at Anfield.

"I didn't know what to expect, stepping out at Anfield, after what had happened a few weeks ago,” admitted Alexander-Arnold. “I wanted to play for the club one more time, he trusted me to go out there, the reception means more than anything for me.

Liverpool transfer guide: Florian Wirtz and top targets for Arne Slot’s title defence

10:57 , Jack Rathborn

Liverpool are bracing for a busy summer to build on this season’s Premier League title success.

Arne Slot orchestrated a stunning debut campaign at Anfield, inheriting a stacked squad from Jurgen Klopp before taking English football by storm to seal a record-equally 20th top-flight crown for the club.

Mohamed Salah was the posterboy of Slot’s title winners, with an eye-watering 46 goal contributions in 37 games taking the Reds out of reach at the top of the table.

However, it was in midfield where Liverpool surprised most, with Slot refining a midfield trio brought in by his predecessor and making each one of them an invaluable entity. His transformation of Ryan Gravenberch from a promising yet raw talent to a world-class defensive midfielder was most astounding, with the 23-year-old starting all 34 league games before Liverpool sealed the title against Spurs.
