Liverpool transfer round-up: Klopp 'identifies' £44m Salah replacement as part of rebuild

Liverpool have struggled this season, with their midfield having become the focus of fans' disappointment with recent transfer activity.

Injury troubles for Thiago Alcantara, mixed with players like Fabinho's struggles to find form have left the Reds with some difficult choices this summer. Their form has dipped to such an extent that European football next season appears unlikely and the summer could see wholesale changes throughout the squad.

This has led to many marking out Jude Bellingham as the solution. However, with the 19-year-old being one of the coveted names in world football, there appear to be doubts about Liverpool's capacity to spend big on the Borussia Dortmund man, who is reported valued at upwards of £100 million by the Bundesliga club.

This could lead to Liverpool looking elsewhere in order to achieve the overhaul that many are saying is needed at the club and here is the latest on what they could achieve this summer.

£44m international eyed as 'medium term' Salah replacement

After recent struggles in for Mohamed Salah, Nico Williams could have emerged as the Egyptian's 'medium-term' successor at Anfield, with Klopp's interest in the Athletic Bilbao man being reported.

Spanish publication El Mundo (via Football 365) claim that Williams, 20, is a potential replacement for Salah amid his recent difficulties with form in front of goal. In addition, a reported £44 million fee could make the Spain international a viable option for the Reds with the club's limited funds in comparison to their rivals.

The reports state that Klopp is a big fan of the player, who has scored five goals in 28 La Liga matches this season for the Basque club and played for Spain at the World Cup.

'Enthusiastic' Gravenberch talks revealed

Ryan Gravenberch has emerged as a viable transfer alternative to Jude Bellingham, with the Dutch midfielder having struggled for consistent game time following a £20 million move from Ajax last summer.

He has started just once in the league all season for the Bavarian club, with his potential exit emerging after a highly promising start to his career with Ajax having been halted by his move to the German giants. As a far cheaper alternative to Jude Bellingham, the versatile midfielder has a similar profile both in age and playing style to the England international.

It has been reported by Sky Sports (via Football 365) that Gravenberch, 20, is enthusiastic about a move and that his agent Rafaela Pimenta met with Anfield bosses earlier this year. The reports also state that the Dutchman's father met with club representatives as recently as last week as a transfer in excess of the £20 million paid by Bayern paid last summer continues to be discussed.

Liverpool rival Newcastle for Serie A defender

Liverpool could rival Newcastle for 23-year-old Torino defender Perr Schurrs, with another former Ajax man potentially targeted by the Reds for their summer overhaul.

Netherlands Under-21 international Schurrs has impressed this season for Torino in Serie A and, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool may seek a move this summer. The 6 foot 3 inch centre-back is yet to make an appearance for his country, but with Virgil van Dijk already at the club it could be a solid partnership to build on after defensive troubles this campaign.

A potential pitfall in the reported plan could come with the Magpies more likely to be able to offer Champions League football and a vast transfer war chest with which to splash on the defender.
