Liverpool transfer news: Reds star lined up for reunion with former boss

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a reunion with Daniel Sturridge.

The Liverpool striker was an integral part of Rodgers' side at Anfield when the Reds almost won the title in 2014.

He has struggled for game time this season though having returned from a disappointing loan spell at West Brom.

Sturridge has started just a handful of matches in all competitions and is a free agent at the end of the season.

He is unlikely to be offered a new deal by Liverpool and that has alerted Leicester boss Rodgers.

The Sun reports Rodgers still rates Sturridge highly and wants to add to his attacking options at the King Power this summer.

Jamie Vardy remains Leicester's main striker but former Celtic boss Rodgers is said to have reservations over his back-up options.

Shinji Okazaki and Kelechi Iheanacho are Leicester's only other central strikers.

Sturridge is likely to be the subject of interest from the MLS but at the age of 29 may think he still has a point to prove in the Premier League.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp reveals one position he has choice to make for Chelsea clash

Rodgers saw his side draw a blank against Newcastle on Friday night as the 1-0 defeat dented their chances of finishing 7th and qualifying for the Europa League.

“It was the first game of this type that I’d seen us play in,” said Rodgers.

“When you play an opponent that’s very deep and put all 11 players in the final third of the pitch, then of course it’s difficult.

“It’s obviously disappointing when you lose any game. The important thing is learning from it, we’re here to help the team improve eventually in these types of games.
