Liverpool to make 'financial effort' for transfer of Spain midfielder who silenced Anfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has asked the club's board for 'a financial effort' to try and sign Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente, according to reports.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claims that the 27-year-old could now be sold following Diego Simeone's side's failure to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages. A number of players may need to now leave the La Liga side to help fill a financial shortfall and with Llorente's form having dropped off, he is named as one ‘most likely to leave’.

That has not deterred Klopp, according to Fichajes however, who they report has asked Liverpool to ‘make a financial effort’ to bring the Spaniard to Anfield. Having been accused of showing 'blind faith' in Llorente, Simeone could now be prepared to let his player leave and would represent the first 'bombshell' of the Reds' midfield overhaul.

Llorente is certainly no stranger to Anfield. The midfielder scored two extra time goals against the Reds back in 2020, to help eliminate Klopp's side from the Champions League in the final match played in England before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But as Atletico look to balance the books following their Champions League exit, a move as early as January could be under consideration and the next time Llorente finds the net at Anfield, it might be in a Liverpool shirt.
