Liverpool team bewildered at FIFA decision about Club World Cup celebrations

A number of Liverpool players were left bewildered by FIFA after world football's governing body stopped Jurgen Klopp's team from celebrating their Club World Cup victory with fans in Qatar.

The Reds beat Flamengo 1-0 after a goal from Roberto Firmino in extra-time but post-match celebrations, which saw captain Jordan Henderson lift the trophy at the Khalifa International Stadium, were restricted to the pitch.

That meant Klopp and his players were stopped from going over and enjoying the victory with fans and they were unable to complete a lap of honour after the triumph.

When the German manager tried to go behind the goal on the night, before a number of players went to go over too, FIFA representatives stepped in and ushered them back towards the pitch.

The ECHO understands Liverpool themselves don't have a position on this and haven't complained formally but the team found the actions of staff in the ground very odd and unnecessary.

In the past few months the Reds have claimed both the Champions League and Super Cup where Klopp and his star players have got up close and personal with fans inside the stadium and they clearly wanted to do the same this time around with thousands of fans having flown over from Merseyside for the FIFA showpiece event.
