Liverpool star Andy Robertson increases security at home after "significant breach"

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has increased security at his Cheshire home after a “significant security breach” last year.

Robertson was away on international duty with Scotland in March 2021, when a man was arrested for trying to gain access into the mansion valued at £3.5million. Following the incident, the Sun have reported that the 28-year-old submitted a planning application for new gates which have now been installed outside of his property.

In a supporting statement within the planning documents, it was stated: “Following a significant security breach, the application seeks consent for the installation of a new boundary fence and pedestrian access gate to the front elevation of the property."

It outlines the reasons for Robertson believing there is a need to enhance security at the property and states that "unauthorised access has occurred, creating security concerns for the occupants".

The new gates have now reportedly been installed at the house after his plans were given the OK earlier this month. A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “On 24 March officers were called to reports of an intruder on the grounds of an address in Wilmslow. Officers attended the scene and a 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with vehicle interference.”

There have been a string of Premier League stars targeted by home invaders in recent months, with gangs targeting the homes of players they know will not be there. Manchester United players Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Tahith Chong and Victor Lindelof have all been victims of crime, with youngster Chong the latest.

Three men wearing balaclavas broke in while the duo slept and stole possessions worth thousands of pounds during a robbery in late March . As reported by The Sun, the intruders made off with jewellery, watches and designer bags after holding a knife to Chong's throat and taunting him over his lack of security.

Chong's girlfriend, Rianna Taylor, has opened up on the traumatic experience which involved the perpetrators threatening to "chop them up".

"I started shaking uncontrollably and thought it was a nightmare. After a few minutes I realised it was real," the nightclub performer, 24, explained. "One of the men threatened us with a very large kitchen knife and another grabbed Tahith by the ankle and dragged him out of bed.”The report adds the raid lasted for roughly 40 minutes and Chong sounded the panic alarm after the three men left. Police arrived at his home in Sale, Greater Manchester within minutes but they have not made any arrests.

In the case of Lindelof, the Swede’s wife Maja was forced to lock herself and the couple’s two children away while the gang roamed their house, with Victor away with United during their away game with Brentford.
