Liverpool send fan request as Anfield prepares to re-open its doors

Liverpool are preparing to re-open Anfield's doors to supporters after sending out a fan survey ahead of their potential return.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed last month that the government are prepared to allow live sport to take place with fans in attendance from October as the United Kingdom continues to take tentative steps out of lockdown.

“From October, we intend to bring back audiences in stadia," said the PM. "Again, these changes must be done in a COVID-secure way, subject to the successful outcome of pilots.”

The ECHO understands talks between the club and fan groups about the return of match-goers have been taking place since June and Liverpool have now dispatched a survey to their supporters to complete ahead of the eventual comeback.

The club are keen to garner the match-day habits of their fanbase as they aim to ensure Anfield meets and exceeds all the safety requirements for later this year.

The lack of fans in attendance at Anfield costs the Reds in the region of £3million per game, although given the stadium is unlikely to allow full capacity back in, earnings are still expected to take a hit for the remainder of the year at least.

"Liverpool FC’s priority remains on the health and wellbeing of our people, the local community and supporters at this challenging time. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

"As we approach the end of this hugely successful season, the Club is working hard to explore options that could enable the safe return of supporters to Anfield next season.

"We need your support by providing us with information to help inform the ongoing planning and discussions within the Club and with the relevant authorities.

"Any decisions in relation to the return of supporters to Anfield Stadium will be in line with Government, Premier League and Sports Ground Safety Authority guidance. These guidelines are subject to change and will influence how LFC is able to allow the safe return of fans to Anfield.

"We really appreciate your time and input and would encourage all supporters to complete this short survey as the more information that we have the more the Club can do to ensure a safe return for supporters."

Around 300 people per game have been permitted access to Anfield since the resumption of football at the end of June with attendees asked to complete a health questionnaire before their arrival at the ground.

Temperature checks are taken at the entrance and face coverings must be worn at all times on site. A further 200 were allowed access to the stadium when the Reds lifted the Premier League title last month after a last-minute safety certificate was granted.
